Biography

Pask-Thompson is a visual artist based in Saskatoon, creating authentic artworks in acrylic, oil, and mixed media on canvas and cradleboard. She earned a B.A. in Art and a B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan, where she dedicated over 30 years to teaching art at both elementary and high school levels while maintaining a part-time studio practice. After retiring from teaching, Karen took on the role of Program Guide at the Remai Modern Art Museum in Saskatoon, leading tours and educational activities for school groups and the public. This position deepened her ties to the art community and motivated her to fully invest in her studio work, enhancing her creative journey.

 

Karen's artistic style is influenced by Fauvism, Surrealism, and Expressionism, utilizing these movements to bring vibrant symbolism and emotional resonance to her pieces Rooted in prairie imagery, her art examines the human condition, encouraging viewers to reflect on both personal and universal themes. Her work is part of public collections like the Mann Art Gallery in Prince Albert and the St. Thomas More Gallery in Saskatoon. Throughout her career, she has held numerous solo exhibitions in Saskatoon, including those at the Frances Morrison Library, Calories Restaurant, St. Thomas More Gallery, and the Chapel Gallery in North Battleford, as well as participating in group exhibitions at notable venues like the Mann Art Gallery, Humboldt Art Gallery, and St. Thomas More Gallery.
