This is my studio. I recently moved from a studio space in my house into a larger space with a number of other full-time professional artists. The light is perfect and so are my studiomates. I work mostly from memory and my imagination. The artist Chagall stated the process I follow the best. "If I create from the heart, nearly everything works. If from the head, almost nothing."
Background
I grew up on a farm in the middle of the boreal forest and it was my playground. I love spending time in the outdoors and find the natural world to be a refuge for the busyness of life. I come from an education background and taught both elementary and high school art. Students constantly amazed me with their creativity. I enjoyed working with them as they searched for their own voice.
There are so many parallels between the natural and human world and so much to learn about how to keep this world protected for future generations. My artwork celebrates and tells stories from the land using personal symbols that have been inspired from nature. I usually work in a series and my art has been a bit of a visual journal for me over the years as I respond and try to make sense of the world around me.
